How to use Dreamweaver 8.02 on Windows 11

A step by step guide as to how to get Dreamweaver 8.02 working on Windows 11 and earlier versions of Windows where installation of the Dreamweaver 8.0.3 update file failed to install.

This sounds bananas - but works.

When you install Dreamweaver 8 normally on your computer (in my case windows 11!)... the program installs as normal... however the program is unstable and as a result you need to install the Dreamweaver 8.02 update (incidentally the 8.02 update contains the 8.01 update files also). However in Windows 11 and other previous versions... the update does not install. It says the installation was interrupted... if you use the dw8_802_update_en.exe file... and if you use the wrapped PatchPackage.msp then you get with another ikernel related error. As a result you are left with an unstable version of Dreamweaver 8 - and not 8.0.2

Simple solution to this - when you first install dreamweaver 8 (for me... with Dreamweaver8-en.exe) from anywhere on your computer (I installed from Desktop), it is important to note that the an .MSI file is automatically saved in C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations\Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. Think of this file like an original Dreamweaver 8 installation CD... which the update file dw8_802_update_en.exe ... or even better in this case the PatchPackage.msp... looks for - for reference.

This is what to do... to make things simple... go into CMD.... create a simple root directory... in my case I created C:\dreamweaver (to find easily in CMD mode)... then drag and drop the "Macromedia_Dreamweaver_8.msi" which was created in the C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations\Macromedia Dreamweaver 8\ during your normal installation of Dreamweaver 8... then copy PatchPackage.msp (your Dreamweaver 8.02 update file) to the same directory...

Make sure you are running CMD as an administrator (if you haven't already done so) and then run the following command (in CMD mode) in the directory where you have dragged and dropped both files:

msiexec /update patchpackage.msp

This will install the 8.0.2 update file without any problems - just go through the installation motions.

Not sure if you were successful? All you need to do to verify the installation was successful is to open up Dreamweaver - click on the "Help" menu... click on About Dreamweaver at the end of the menu... and you will see: Version 8.0.2

That's it. Simple.

Note... if you don't see the Macromedia_Dreamweaver_8.msi in the C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations\Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 directory - it is more than likely your installation was a long time ago. Delete Dreamweaver from your computer... reinstall and you will see the .MSI file in C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations\Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 directory

My version of Dreamweaver 8.02 is functioning normal... and have applied all the relevant InterAKT extensions that I need – making it easier to work on rather than digging up one of my older laptops.

All the best.

(I have 3 files for this article - Dreamweaver8-en.exe, A keygen file and the patchpackage.msp  (@Admin, let me know how to upload these files and I willy happy do so.)
